Plot.
Vijay Rajendran, the youngest son of Rajendran Palanisamy, a prominent business magnate, is disowned and kicked out of the house for refusing to join the family business and instead setting up a food delivery startup. Seven years later, Rajendran receives the news that he has advanced pancreatic cancer and only a few months left to live. Before his impending death, he decides to disclose his terminal illness and name one of his two older sons, Jai Rajendran or Ajay Rajendran, CEO of the company.
Rajendran plans to celebrate his 65th birthday in a grand way with the intention of announcing both matters at the event. In addition, Vijay is invited at the request of his mother, Sudha, who continues to consider him to be her son. When Vijay arrives, his house is in disarray. Jai is neglecting his family, including his teenage daughter Ria, while he is with another woman and cheating on his wife, Aarthi. Ajay is secretly working for Rajendran's rival, Jayaprakash "JP," to make money. The two older brothers never talk to each other and constantly fight over who will succeed their father.
In the meantime, Vijay meets Divya, Jai's sister-in-law who has always had a crush on Vijay. The two fall in love with one another after a few incidents. Jayaprakash and Mukesh, Jayaprakash's associate, reveal the duplicity of Jai and Ajay at Rajendran's birthday party, which upsets the entire family, especially Aarthi, who decides to file for divorce, and Rajendran, who lost a business deal because of Ajay's duplicity. Rajendran reaches out to Vijay because he is aware that he cannot rely on his older sons to run his business empire. Vijay initially declines, but after learning about Rajendran's illness, he agrees to take over the company and business.
Jai and Ajay leave the house because they are angry and jealous. Instead, they make a plan with JP to get rid of Vijay as CEO, but Vijay overcomes the obstacles and runs the family business well. Jai makes amends with Vijay and his family following an incident involving Ria's kidnapping. As Rajendran's condition deteriorates, Vijay prevents Ajay from transferring company shares to JP and forces Ajay to acknowledge his errors. In addition, Jai and Ajay come to terms, and the family eats a hearty meal together. Vijay and his brothers scatter Rajendran's ashes at Varanasi, where he also passes away peacefully.

The working title of Vijay's 66th film as lead actor, Thalapathy 66, was announced on September 26, 2021. It is the first Tamil film produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations,[10][11] and Paidipally's second Tamil film after Thozha (2016). Paidipally wrote the story and screenplay with Hari and Ashishor Solomon. Raju Murugan was signed as the dialogue writer, but he opted out of the project due to other film commitments.[16][17] Murugan was replaced by Vivek for additional screenplay and dialogue Casting The story for the film was written with Mahesh Babu in mind, and when the actor could not sign up for the film, the makers approached Allu Arjun, Prabhas, and Ram Charan before finalizing Vijay.[25] In October 2021, Prakash Raj was reported to play a key role in the film, collaborating with Vijay after over a decade since Villu (2009).[26][27] On 5 April 2022, the birthday of Rash A photograph of Khushbu on the sets was leaked in early June.[37] Though she initially denied being part of the cast,[38] her presence was confirmed on 26 October.[39] According to Vijay, her role is minor.[40] 9:40 On August 23, Ganesh Venkatraman said that he would be in the movie. In September, Sriman said that he would be in the movie. On December 24, Vijay said that S. J. Suryah would play a minor role, which he did for Vijay's sake. 9:45–10:20 Filming The first puja ceremony for the film's shooting began on April 6, 2022, in Chennai, and was followed by the first schedule.[43] It took place on a specially constructed set at a film city in East Coast Road, Chennai, and was finished on April 15.[44][45] Initially, 75% of the shoot was planned to take place in Hyderabad; however, Vijay requested that the production remain in Chennai to benefit the local FEFSI members, and This includes a song sequence and a few talkie parts.[49] Despite the production team's strict measures, pictures from the sets were leaked onto the internet, and by 15 June, the team planned to move the shooting location to a private location, putting an end to the filming.[50] By 23 June, 45 percent of the filming was over, and another schedule was scheduled to start in July.[51] The fourth schedule started on 5 July in Hyderabad and was finished in three weeks.[ Despite the Telugu Film Producers Guild's (TFPG) decision to halt shootings of Telugu films from 1 August 2022, Dil Raju, the head of TFPG, assured that the shooting of Varisu would continue because it was a Tamil-language film and not a bilingual.[54] In mid-August 2022, a song shoot with Vijay and Mandanna and choreographed by Jani Master was held.[58] The team moved to Hyderabad for Additionally, the technical team went to Ladakh to shoot montage sequences.[63] Filming was finished in December.[65]
