"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Shazam, produced by New Line Cinema and DC Films. It is a sequel to the 2019 film "Shazam!" and is directed by David F. Sandberg, with a screenplay by Henry Gayden.
The film follows the adventures of Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel), a teenage boy who can transform into an adult superhero named Shazam (played by Zachary Levi) by saying the magic word "Shazam!" In the sequel, Shazam and his foster family face off against the villainous Hespera (played by Helen Mirren) and her sister Kalypso (played by Lucy Liu), who are ancient gods seeking to destroy the world.
The cast of the first film, including Angel, Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, and Jovan Armand, all return for the sequel. Rachel Zegler, who starred in Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" remake, has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.
